Terms of partecipation

The contest is open to the following categories:

1st CATEGORY: Jazz A-cappella Ensemble (up to 8 singers)

2nd CATEGORY: Pop/Gospel A-cappella Ensemble (up to 8 singers)

3rd CATEGORY: Choral Jazz (more than 8 singers)

4th CATEGORY: Choral Pop/Gospel (more than 8 singers)

REGULATIONS

1st part (application – articles fr. 1 to 3)

Art. 1: There is no limit to the number of applicant groups and choirs.

Art. 2: To take part in the contest, all groups and choirs are required fill in the application form (click here to see the page).

Art. 2.1 – The registration provides for the payment of the fee of € 100 (non-refundable) on the current account IBAN IT48 T054 2810 8010 0000 0020 917 – Banca Popolare di Bergamo – registered to: Associazione Culturale Solevoci – Payment description: Iscrizione Solevoci Festival.

The deadline for the application is February 20, 2017.

Art. 3: By February 27  2017, the Organizing Committee and the Artistic Jury will decide which of the vocal groups and choirs are to be accepted at the contest. This decision cannot be questioned or changed. The artistic value of the program is an essential condition for the acceptance of the vocal group or choir.

2nd part (programs – performaces – jury)

GENERAL RULES

a) Groups belonging to the categories Jazz and Pop A-Cappella Ensemble – 1st / 2nd categories – must not include more than 8 singers. Groups belonging to the categories Choral Jazz and Choral Pop/Gospel – 3rd / 4th categories – must include more than 8 singers.

b) All performances must not exceed the duration of 20 minutes.

c) Mixed voiced vocal groups and choirs – featuring both male and female singers – are accepted in all categories.

d) The performances will take place in a single phase and they will be open to the public.

e) Solevoci will provide microphones and professional amplification equipment for all the vocal groups/choirs.

Art. 4: “SOLEVOCI INTERNATIONAL CONTEST” is divided into the following 4 categories:

1st CATEGORY: Jazz A-Cappella Ensemble

All groups will perform a musical program without the use of musical instruments. The songs must have a typical jazz arrangement. The use of microphones is permitted.

2nd CATEGORY: Pop/Gospel A-Cappella Ensemble

All groups will perform a musical program without the use of musical instruments. The songs must have a  pop/gospel arrangement. The use of microphones is permitted.

3rd CATEGORY: Choral Jazz

All choirs will perform a musical program without the use of musical instruments. The songs must have a choral arrangement in a jazz style. The use of microphones is permitted.

4th CATEGORY: Choral Pop/Gospel

All choirs will perform a musical program without the use of musical instruments. The songs must have a choral arrangement in a pop/gospel style. The use of microphones is permitted.

Art. 5: The final ranking of groups and choirs, performing in the 4 categories, will be drawn up according to the judgement of each group/choir by the International Jury (selected by Solevoci Organizing Committee). Each member of the International Jury will express his/her own individual judgment. The final score will result from the arithmetic mean of the scores given by each jury member, excluding the highest and the lowest score.

Scores will be divided as follows:
– Sound / Intonation
– Balance
– Diction / Pronunciation / Text processing
– Pace / Time / Groove
– Interpretation / Stylistic integrity
– Stage presence
– General musical performance
– Selection of songs

Art. 6: Each group/choir will receive a diploma, according to the following scores:
GOLD DIPLOMA: from 85 to 100 points
SILVER DIPLOMA: from 70 to 84,99 points
BRONZE DIPLOMA: from 60 to 69,99 points

Art. 7: All the competing groups/choirs will separately receive the details of the evaluation expressed by the International Jury for their performance. At the end of the contest, each group/choir will meet all the members of the Jury.

Art. 8: The group/choir who does not show up for the performance – at the agreed time and date – or who does not compete in the category for which it was accepted will be excluded from the contest. Such exclusion releases the Organizing Committee from any obligation as defined in these regulations towards the group/choirs.

Art. 9: Any appeal, concerning alleged infringements of these regulations, must be advanced to Solevoci Organizing Committee by the Director of the group/choir, so that facts can be promptly verified. Verbal objection is accepted, but it must immediately be followed by a written complaint (otherwise the appeal will not taken into consideration).

Groups/choirs shall organize and entirely pay for their travel and accommodation costs. If requested, Solevoci will provide them with a list of partner hotels. The Organizing Committee will also provide a guide for each group/choir (free of charge).
Solevoci reserves the right to modify these regulations for reasons beyond its control. Changes will be promptly communicated to the groups/choirs.
The groups/choirs, who take part in the contest, must acknowledge and accept all the regulations as written in this document.
These regulations are proposed for your convenience in several languages. However, only the Italian text should be referred to in case of dispute. In such case, the place of jurisdiction will be the Law Court of Varese.

SPECIAL PRIZES:
– to the group with the highest absolute score
– to the most interesting program in any of the 4 categories
– to the best song performance in any of the 4 categories
– to the best choir Director in 3rd/4th categories
– to the best solo singer
Art.12: The prizes will be entrusted to the Directors of the winning groups/choirs. No individual prize will be given to any single member of the groups/choirs.
Art.13: In case of draw, the first prize of each category will be equally divided between the winners.

Art. 14 – All prizes are inclusive of all forms of taxation and VAT.
